Announcing the 2019 Youth Laureate Winners

Phantom Feather Press and Young New Zealand writers are pleased to announce the 2019 Young New Zealand Writers’ Youth Laureate Award winners are now in print.

There were close to 40 entries from around the country from promising primary and secondary school students of creative writing.

Judged from nearly forty entries by students of all ages, Emma Uren’s pre-teen fantasy adventure, It’s a Small World was the winner of the NZ Youth Laureate Award. Xiaole Zhan’s The Extinct, a tale of magical realism told in free prose, won the editor’s choice award.

Young NZ Writers, in conjunction with Phantom Feather Press, will launch the winning books from the 2019 Young NZ Writers’ Youth Laureate Award at GeyserCon on Friday 31st May in Rotorua at the Holiday Inn.
